Commissioner for Investment and Public/Private Partnership in Edo, Mr Dennis Idahosa, on Friday, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Idahosa joined the PDP along with some leaders of the APC in Ovia South West Local Government Area of the State.Idahosa, who was received into the PDP by the state Chairman, Mr Dan Orbih, said his defection was a prelude to his resignation as commissioner, which he said would follow soon. He explained that he left the APC because of incessant abuse of President Goodluck Jonathan and Edo elders by Gov. Adams Oshiomhole.The commissioner noted that he would immediately join forces with PDP in the state to galvanise support for the re-election of President Jonathan.“The reason I am joining PDP is that I don’t agree with the way Oshiomhole abuses our elders and President Jonathan. I stand to support President Jonathan for the presidency.”Idahosa said more serving commissioners in Oshiomhole’s cabinet have expressed willingness to join the PDP.He noted that the PDP would harness the failures of Oshiomhole’s administration to the benefit of the party.Idahosa appealed for tolerance among PDP supporters in the state, urging them to take the messages of political tolerance to every parts of the state.

The Cause.
It's now household info, that people with AS genotypes should not marry each other, just as AS and SS should also not marry. Having known this, and the many medical centres around where tests cam easily be conducted, why do we still have sickle cell anaemia patients?? The reason is not far fetched. Most of those parents, while they were young in love, were either blinded by love or ignorant of the fact. So many people in love these days don't even ask about genotypes before defining something serious. Some even go ahead into marriage believing God for a miracle. We know there's nothing God cannot do, but then, why tempt God?? I won't be surprised if a child suffering from sickle cell anaemia, suddenly picks up a gun and kills her/his parents.

The Remedy.

The Remedy is not far fetched. Don't fall in love too soon. Dot the I's and cross the T's. Know your genotypes. There's no need waiting on God for something man can solve. Peaceably look for a way to bring the relationship to an end. In this very case, friend-zoning is allowed. Please and please, help the unborn children, the pains they feel is enormous. Even the unborn children already have problems to cope with. They have books to read. Don't further complicate an already complicated life. Love wisely. Blogger loves you.

If you have been finding it difficult to maintain an erection of late, it’s probable your cigarettes are to blame. According to a paper published by the NHS on the link between smoking and erectile dysfunction; smoking leads to the constriction of
blood vessels that directly leads to the inability to maintaining an erection (since smoking lowers the amount of blood that flows to the penis). The chemicals present in cigarettes also alter the way the blood vessels around your penis expand
and can lead to the formation of blocks in the arteries lowering the amount of blood that rushes to the penis when aroused. Moreover, nicotine is known to affect the blood vessels supplying the penis directly, making it difficult for you to have and maintain an erection.

Reasons # 7: Makes your bones brittle

A large number of studies have found that
smoking leads to loss in bone density by
increasing the amount of calcium leeched from the bones. This loss in bone density leads to early onset of osteroporosis (especially in women since smoking affects the amount of oestrogen produced), joint pain and even loss of teeth due to excessive loss of bone density in
the jaws. This factor also puts you at risk of
suffering from frequent fractures and slower healing of injuries.

Cigarettes contain tar, a chemical that coats your teeth lending them a yellowish tinge. This tar is difficult to clean with brushing and usually forms permanent stains on a smoker’s teeth.

Not only does smoking cause conditions like oral thrush but also leads to a condition called ‘smoker’s palate’ (where the roof of the mouth is covered with cigarette residue, leading to formation of small red spots on the palate) which is one of the main reasons for bad breath.

A resident who raised the alarm when
she saw the girl bleeding added her
side of the story, “I saw her writhing in
pain in a bathroom. She said she
wanted to defecate, but I saw blood
coming out of her private parts. “I
raised the alarm and when other people
arrived at the scene, she said it was

Adams Oshiomole kicks out Igbinedion Uni students from state medical facility

The executive governor of edo state, governor Adams Oshiomole today gave a standing order barring the training of nursing students from the Igbinedion University at the state owned medical facilities, the Benin General Hospital and the Stella Obasanjo Hospital.According to reports, the governor is angry at the school's management for collecting money
from their students and not providing the
necessary medical facilities for their training.The students had up until now enjoyed free training at the state owned medical hospitals despite paying huge sums of money to their school for their training. Gov Oshiomole had earlier terminated an agreement with the
management of the school to train their medical students at the state's specialist hospital overdebts totaling N350million owed the state by the school.

As the next month’s general elections gather momentum, there are strong indications that the polls might not be violent-free in Akwa Ibom State.
This followed Monday night clashes involving supporters of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and their counterparts of the main opposition, All Progressives Congress (APC), which one person was feared killed and five others injured. The incident, it was gathered, occurred late Monday night along the popular ‘Maitama’ Road leading into the Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo. It was learnt that the deceased, a member of the
APC, was defacing and removing the campaign posters of the PDP House of Representatives candidate for Uyo Federal Constituency, Mr. Michael Enyong, popularly called ‘Baba Ntan’, when the PDP supporters emerged from their bus
to accost him. “Yes, the person was trying to remove the posters of the PDP candidate, Baba Ntan, and suddenly, the PDP supporters came with their
bus and arrested him. He was heavily beaten and his head was broken
when he ran for his dear life into Nteps’
Supermarket. The security at the supermarket blocked him from entering the place with his blood soaked body”, Emem Bassey, an eye witness told the
incident told our correspondent, adding that “he was eventually pushed into the gutter by his pursuers”. In the reprisal attack that followed, he stated that
no fewer than five others sustained various
degrees of injuries. Worried by the development, the Commissioner for Police, Mr. Gabriel Achong, has warned politicians to play by the rules and urged them to
restrain their supporters from tampering with the campaign posters of others for fear of violence. A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Etim Dickson (DSP), on behalf of his boss, appealed to the people to imbibe high ethical standards during the election
year and warned against being used by
politicians as thugs as the election approaches. Dickson urged supporters of both parties to refrain from removing or destroying posters of their opponents as this contradicts the electoral
laws. The police image maker therefore warned that anybody caught defacing or removing party posters would be prosecuted.

Oshiomhole’s Aides Beats Up Catholic Priest

To Reverend Father Peter Udo, a Catholic priest, last weekend was one filled with ill luck as he was allegedly beaten to a comatose state by security aides attached to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State. The priest’s offence was that he refused to get off the road when Oshiomhole and his Lagos State counterpart, Babatunde Fasola’s convoy
drove along Amendokhian- Ugboha Road to commission it.
Udo, who hails from Ujogba, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, was said to have been on his way to his parish, St. Dennis Catholic Church, Ugboha, Esan Southeast, when he encountered the governor’s convoy. A source close to the Catholic Diocese of Uromi disclosed that the priest is now receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital due to the heavy beating he received from the security
aides of the governor. According to the source, “It is true that one of our priests, Reverend Father Peter Udo, who is
in charge of St. Dennis Catholic Church Parish in Ugboha was beaten into a state of coma by aides to Governor Oshiomhole along Amendokhian-Ugboha Road when he went to commission the road.
“From what we gathered, the offence of the
priest was that he did not jump into the bush for the governor’s convoy to pass. He was humiliated even in his cassock. At the appropriate time, the Catholic Diocese of Uromi will react.”
When contacted on the phone, Reverend Father Stephen Okojie, Director, Benin Archdiocese Directorate of Communication, said he was yet to
receive such information.
Also, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Peter Okhiria, denied the beating of any Catholic priest by the governor’s aides, describing the report as not only malicious and wicked, but one which portrayed the source as the “devil’s advocate”. In a statement he signed and made available to THISDAY, Okhiria said: “We received with great shock the concocted news that was reported by
Independent Television (ITV) owned by a PDP chieftain, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, stating that the governor’s aides beat up a reverend father at Ujogba.
“The said report is not only callous, malicious and wicked, but clearly portrays ITV and its proprietor as the devil’s advocates who churn out falsehood to denigrate the Oshiomhole administration.”
According to him, “While we state that the
governor was never at Ujogba as reported l by the TV station, the governor, Adams Oshiomhole, is known to be proudly Catholic and has boasted about his faith at many fora. “The state deputy governor, Rt. Hon. Pius Odubu, is also a practising Catholic as well as the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uyi Igbe. “It is a fact that the governor enjoys a robust
relationship with the Catholic Church more so as a baptised practising Catholic. He is also in good standing with the archbishop, priests and laity of the Benin City Archdiocese, Auchi Diocese and Uromi Diocese. “The governor, as the father of everybody in the state, would never encourage anyone to beat up anybody, let alone directing that a priest of God, from whom he receives the Holy Communion, be beaten up.”
Okhiria further argued that if the purported
incident as reported by ITV was correct, why has the church, which has unfettered access to the governor, not reported the incident? “To the best of our knowledge, the ITV report was deliberately fabricated to promote hate sentiments against the governor by the Catholic
faithful. “It is however heartwarming that the Catholic Church was able to see through this deliberate deception, utter blackmail and wicked machinations of the ITV. “In spite of this crude attempt to rubbish the governor because of his faith, he renews his commitment to the Catholic Church, to all Catholics, all Christians and indeed people of all faith in the state.
“We use this medium to call on ITV to retract the said offensive report and tender an unreserved apology to the governor through the same station for dragging the governor’s name into a matter totally unconnected to him,” he stated

10 Cancer Symptoms You Shouldn't Ignore

Cancer has become a steady pandemic in recent times. Early diagnosis has been a sure method of reducing it's life threatening risks. But just before you discount that persistent cough as just another part of flu season, you might want to ask your doctor to give it a second glance. According to a new study by Cancer Research U.K., more than half of adults have experienced alarm bells that could mean cancer, yet just two percent of them believed cancer could be a possible cause. Researchers sent questionnaires to nearly 5,000 U.K. residents registered with general practitioners—in other words, men and women who have and visit a primary care doctor. Just shy of 1,800 people completed the questionnaire, and five were eliminated because they indicated they'd already been diagnosed with cancer.
They asked participants if, in the last three
months, they'd experienced a host of different symptoms (some of which could be possible signs of cancer), ranging from persistent coughing and unexplained weight loss to having low energy. If they had experienced any of these symptoms, they were asked to write in what they thought caused it and whether it was serious. "We aren't sure why, but it seems there is a mismatch between what people know in practice and whether they apply the knowledge to themselves," says study co- authorKatriina Whitaker, Ph.D., senior
research fellow at University College London. "So while awareness of many of these signs and symptoms is quite high, very few people mention cancer as a possible cause when it's them who is experiencing the symptom."
Here, we take a look at the 10 symptoms
researchers consider to be red flags. While
they could be nothing, the researchers say the point is to recognize that they could also be cancer—and to ask your doctor to check your symptoms out.

1. Persistent Cough or Hoarseness

While a cough here and there is nothing to
worry about, a consistent cacophony or a
cough accompanied by blood is definitely
cause for concern. "Most coughs are not
cancer," says Therese Bartholomew Bevers, M.D., professor of clinical cancer prevention and the medical director of the Cancer Prevention Center at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. "But certainly a persistent cough needs to be evaluated to see if it could be lung cancer." Your physician should recommend a chest X-ray or CT scan to rule out cancer as a possibility.

2. Persistent Change in Bowel Habits

When your bowel movements aren't as easy as they once were or your stool appears larger than normal or somewhat deformed, this could be a sign of colon cancer, says Bartholomew Bevers. "It could be a sign that there is a mass impeding the transit of the stool from the bowel," she says. "This is a symptom where a person should go to the doctor and schedule a colonoscopy to see if
there indeed is a mass."

3. Persistent Change in Bladder Habits

"If there is blood in the urine, that could be
indicative of bladder or kidney cancer—but
more commonly this is a sign of a urinary
tract infection," says Bartholomew Bevers.
Check for an infection first, then pursue other treatment options.

4. Persistent Unexplained Pain

"Most pain is not a sign of cancer, but
persistent pain must be checked out," says Bartholomew Bevers. "If you have persistent headaches, for example, you likely don't have brain cancer—but it is still something that must be looked into. Persistent pain in the chest could be a sign of lung cancer. And pain in your abdomen could be ovarian cancer."

5. Change in the Appearance of a Mole

While not all moles are indicative of
melanoma, spotting a new mark or one that has changed is something you should bring up with a dermatologist who can screen for skin cancer, says Bartholomew Bevers.

If you have a sore that's hanging on past the three-week mark, you should bring it up with your doctor. "We would have expected our body to have healed itself by now," says Bartholomew Bevers, "and you should absolutely get that checked out." That kind of sore could be a sign of carcinoma.

1. Never stop moving

There's one thing to like about visceral fat: It yields fairly easily to aerobic exercise.
Vaporizing calories via running, biking,
swimming—anything that gets your heartrate up—wins over resistance training when it comes to getting rid of the stuff. A recent study from Duke found the sweet spot: Jogging the equivalent of 12 miles a week.

2. This time, eat protein like you mean it

Of course you know that protein's essential for a slimmer you—you couldn't have made it through the Paleo and South Beach crazes without hearing all about it. But here's why protein really needs to play a prime roll on your plate: "Your body starts to produce more insulin as you age, since your muscle and fat cells aren't responding to it properly," explains

storage, especially around your belly (damn!). A diet high in protein may protect you against insulin resistance, Aronne says. In one study, obese women who followed a diet for eight weeks that was roughly 30% protein, 40% carbs, and 30% fat lost significantly more fat— including visceral pudge—than women who stuck to a plan that was 16% protein, 55% carbs, and 26% fat.

3. Pound the polyunsaturates

according to a Swedish study published this past February. When subjects ate 750 more calories daily for seven weeks, either in the form of palm oil (saturated) or sunflower oil (polyunsaturated), the former gained more visceral fat while the latter gained more muscle mass and less body fat. You know the deal: polyunsaturated fats are the ones in nuts, seeds, and fish.

4. Pucker up

Obese people who consumed a tablespoon or two of vinegar daily for eight weeks showed significant decreases in body fat, particularly visceral fat, according to a 2009 Japanese study. "One theory is that the acetic acid in the vinegar produces proteins that burn up fat," explains Pamela Peeke, professor of medicine at the University of Maryland and author of Fight Fat After 40.

5. Easy Yoga for Weight Loss

Postmenopausal women who tried yoga for 16 weeks reported significant reductions in visceral fat in one 2012 study. If you're just not that into downward dog, any sort of relaxation exercise, even simple deep breathing, can help—the key is to lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which is linked to belly fat. Go to sleep Routinely squeaking by on five hours or less per night increases visceral fat levels, according to a 2010 Wake Forest University study. As you likely already know, 8 is the number to aim at, ...but don't sleep late on weekends. Women who wake up and go to bed at the same time each evening have lower levels of body fat, according to a recent Brigham Young
University study. Chaotic sleep habits cause your internal clock to go haywire, which in turn causes your body to secrete fat-storing hormones like cortisol.

6. Become the queen of this tea

Moderate exercisers who stocked up on the antioxidants found in green tea, called
catechins, were more likely to lose abdominal fat while exercising than those who didn't take.them. One study put the daily dose at 625 mg, the equivalent of two or three eight-ounce cups of green tea.

7. Get fussy about fiber
As in, make sure you're eating a lot of it. In a 2011 trial, subjects who increased their soluble fiber intake by 10 grams a day (the equivalent of two small apples, one cup of green peas, and one half cup of pinto beans) reduced visceral fat by 3.7% after five years.  Check later on for more details.
